Bone Densitometry
Bone Densitometry is used to diagnose the density of bone for increased risk of fracture. A very minimal amount of X-ray is used to scan the hip and lower back. A Bone Density screening is suggested every 2 years. Check with your insurance provider to verify how often they will cover this procedure.
Before Your Exam:
There is no required preparation for a Bone Density. Appointments are scheduled by your physician. For your convenience your Bone Density and Mammogram can be scheduled together.
During Your Exam:
The Bone Density scan is a very simple exam to acquire. The Densitometrist can explain the procedure and answer any questions you may have about this exam.
After Your Exam:
The Densitometrist will perform a computer analysis of your data. This analysis will then be reviewed by a Radiologist (a physician who specializes in diagnostic imaging). The results of your exam will be sent to your referring physician.
